Paging Nipsey Russell
Just thought I’d share my family history of not-so-hot names! They really aren’t TOO bad when you consider that they were popular in their day. But, they are funny all the same.
My Grandmother was Ethyl Joyce. Her mother, Icea Belle, was one of six daughters – the Wilcox girls. We even have a rhyme that goes with their names!
Icea Belle, Brenda Spray,
Verna Dell, Vera Faye,
Lura Grace, and Cora Zell,
that is all that I can tell!
The Story of O
I know a set of brothers named O’Ryan (nickname O), Aero, and Beau.
I also know a little girl named Heavenly.
My sister graduated high school with a boy called R.W., short for…you’ll never guess…Rodeo Wheeler!
My best friend’s ex-sister-in-law’s first child is Maria Peige. Like Paige, but…not.

The Gospel of Dick?
I went to school with 4 brothers, in order of birth: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and Richard. I think the parents didn’t realize the naming trend until after the 3rd child.
A friends mother (now deceased) was born Ethel in the 1910s. When she was in her late teens she legally changed her name to Bertha – a very popular name at the time. Years and years later she remarried after the death of her first husband and became Bertha Sidebottom.

Misty Martian Hop
One important issue to consider when naming your child is to consider how it goes with your family name. The parents of these children obviously put a lot of thought into their selections- which must have been difficult considering their severe crack addictions.
Soren Sorensen
Crystal Ruby
Misty Marsh
And my personal favorite- Thunder Storm.
Unfortunately, I am in some way related to three of them… And I went to school with the fourth. Yick.

Ease on Down
My {kid} goes to school with a girl named Wisdom Heaven.
Blech. I wonder if they call her “Wiz” for short?

The Kid? Doomed
I used to work with a girl named Kakiya Sharmika (she went by Mikki). Mikki had a daughter who went by Deedee, but her real name was Dezandra Marquesa (a little too close to “disaster” for my taste).
Anyway, one day Mikki was filling out a kindergarden application for Deedee, and when she got to the field for middle name, I swear, she actually asked me, “How do you spell ‘Marquesa’?” I think in general, it’s a good idea to know how to spell a name before you attach it to your child.
Thanks again for the chuckle.

Her Majesty’s a Pretty Nice Girl
I worked in the drive-thru at a bank for several years, and saw more than my fair share of bad names (and being in the drive-thru, I could laugh at them without the customers knowing). I had a customer in her early 70s named “Honor Roll” (first & last names), and another named, “Queen Elizabeth” (first & middle names). My favorite, however, was “Twonatongshakenia.” She went by Twona, pronounced TWAH-nah, but I saw “Two” and thought it was pronounced like the number…thus making her name “Tuna”.

Graveyards – A Good Resource?
One of my good friends is named Sharisa (sha-ree-sah), another named Sherrie (rhymes with hurry), and one named Lonelle (low-nell). I have a cousin Courtlyn, his mom saw the name Courtland on a gravestone and changed the spelling. One girl in my high school had a name pronounced Day-veen, but I can’t remember how it was spelled-new teachers always tried “de-vine” first though.

Brealyn, Berlyn, Bay of Pigs Invasion
The final part of the Sarah vs. Yahoo trilogy…
Cute twin sets:
Andres and Atasha (not Natasha, no. I think I know where they get all those extra Ns, they take them from Natashas.)
Daisy and Dakota
Arithzy and Athziry
Brealyn and Berlyn
Romyo & Joleet
River and Raine
Mary Kate & Ashley (…don’t even.)
Perry & Kerry
Adonis and Serena
Alex and Ava (Because Adolph and Eva were TAKEN!)
Rayen and Raya
Brice and Bryn
Jaxon and Jada
Aden and Hayden
Ashton and Ashley
One person even said THIS little gem:
How about names of precious gems or metals? The boy could be Silver and the girl could be Sapphire. Or you could try numbers like Seven for the girl and Nine for the boy.
I think I’ll probably end up naming them Harper Benedict and Meredith Lilyana (I love Lily but it doesn’t quite flow with Meredith, and I also like Lilyana, so, there we go.) I know these are still strange, but… better than Sneha. @_@
Ayudame, El Zorro!
