Pretention on Parade!
Most of these come from recent birth sections in my local city newspaper, but some names are ones that I know from babies or children at the childcare centre in which I worked for a month late last year, or from family friends.
Netley
Delicia
Weaver
Dalgety (last name D****y)
Bowie
Love
Ryly
Phaedra Moon
Rocky
Rocko
Rainbow
Micol (maybe that’s the medicine the mother was taking when she picked the name)
Romeo (a brother for Juliet. I am not joking)
Ellowese (rhymes with yellow wees too, for extra pleasure)
A family friend wanted to name their son Matthew, Matt for short. That was all good and fine, but Matt’s last name was Russ.
Destiny
Starbrite (This is the daughter of a 16 year old illiterate mother I found on a bullitin board. She has a two year old sister Destini and at least 3 possible fathers.)
Pleger Blake Blee (try and say that. His brother’s name was Flynn Blee)
Dante (last name Taylor-Peak. Do you see anything wrong with that picture?)
Shyralee (May be related to Shirley…)
Munday (as opposed to Wudnesday or Fruday)
Nakkaytah
Rafferty
Heaven (where their daughter will wish she is in a few years…)
Cara Mel
Macson

Praise the Lord and Pass D’Amunique
I have a couple of names:

Pej’an {Pay-Jon}
Symonae {Si-mo-nay}
D’Amunique {Dee-ahm-yooniq}

* Not the real last name, but close, so you get the idea.
I Dropped Some at a Rave Once
When I was telling someone about your website, they told me that one of their pregnant friends plans on naming her son Exzion. All I can think of the gas station Exxon lol.

Coppertop Flattery
One of my (relative’s) names is Evalea. Ever heard of it? Just looking to see how many other Evalea’s are actually out there in the world. Also, my sister is pregnant with a third child and she’s thinking of the name Tricell. To me, it sounds like a battery. My sis found it in an Avon book, for hand cream. I can’t stand to see the child suffer. I suggested Egwene. I’m no better than her I suppose.

Big, Confusing Three-Letter Words
I know a couple who is planning on naming their baby, if it is a girl, Jamison. Dad’s name is James. Last I heard, this means son of James, and not daughter of James.

Curse You, Esiason!
I used to be a receptionist at a middle school. There were a large selection of stupid names, but a seventh grader named “Boomer” took the cake. He was a pretty bad kid, and I’d be pissed off too, if my name were Boomer. I can understand putting things like “Ricky” on the birth certificate, so no one can call you Dick. I even think I can understand the appeal of cute names like “Kyelee.” But Boomer? C’mon.

Rueful Britannia
One of my friends is going to name her baby “London Miranda Puff *” — her mom is British. ugh! what is she thinking?
* Not her real last name, but it has a similar sound, so I used a fake one so you can enjoy the extra horror of having a last name with the same gutteral vowel sound as ‘London.’ London Puff. London Puff. Oy.

Funniest. Reasoning. Ever.
Ahh, great names from Yuppieville.
Zoinishiaeya. I am not joking. She goes by Zo. Get this–her mother named her after her imaginary friend, because she promised the imaginary friend she would. So we have to honor the promises we give the figments of our imagination now?
Caityie. Now that’s just overkill. Ratio of 6:2 vowels to consonants, if you count “y” as a vowel.
A young couple I know named their baby girl Stormy Sky, and my (friend) wants to name a baby girl Nineveh. Nineveh happens to be where God wants Jonah to go to preach–it also happened, at the time, to be a city of sin rather similar to Sodom or Gomorrah. Oh, and she mentioned naming a girl Gomorrah until I pointed out the connotations.

A Vampire, a Pharoah and Jesus Walk Into a Bar
I’ve read some bad names on your site, but I think this is one of the worst. It was posted on the pregnancy site I frequent. The woman loved the name Testament and wanted feed back. Testament besides sounding like Testicle, quite literally has roots in the word Testicle–apparently, before the Bible, men used to swear on their testicles, and thus the word Testament. Of course she wanted a “unique” name. Her baby’s father was partial to Lestat and she was dismayed to learn about the popularity of the Vampire Lestat. Someone suggested Ramses to her and I think she rather liked that.
Please, say it ain’t so!
